Barrett moves home
Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson has been chasing a replacement for Leon Cort and has brought Barrett to Roots Hall on a free transfer.
Barrett has penned a two-year contract with the Essex-based side after shunning a fresh deal with The Pirates.
The 24-year-old had spent the past two years in Bristol but has returned to the area where he grew up.
Tilson is delighted with his acquisition and feels Barrett will have no difficulty filling the centre half void created by Cort's move to Hull City.
"Adam is a great signing for the club," Tilson told the club's official website.
"He's been offered a two-year deal by Bristol Rovers on more money but he wants to come to Southend and play for his hometown club and I can't say how good that is to see.
"That shows a lot of commitment to the club and that goes a long way in my eyes."
