Mido claims Toon deal's done
Magpies manager Sir Bobby Robson has made no secret of his need to freshen up his squad after they came up short in The Premiership last term.
A striker is top of his wish list, with Alan Shearer saying the club need to find his replacement, and Robson has been a fan of Mido since the Egyptian's time at Ajax.
Mido has had a disappointing spell at Marseille and the French side have said he can move on.
Newcastle have been monitoring the situation for some time and it appears as if Robson has stepped up his bid.
"I can reveal that I have agreed terms with the prestigious club (Newcastle), and that the British side's officials are in talks with OM as of this moment to finish the deal," Mido told Egyptianplayers.com.
"It's a loan deal of the duration of one year, with a purchasing option, and I hope that OM agrees on finalising the transfer."
Mido claims he cannot wait to link up with Newcastle.
"I am ecstatic about it," he added. "It was a dream to play in The Premiership and it's only a matter of time now before realising that dream.
"I am really excited about the whole thing and I want everybody to know that I will strive to prove my worth in the upcoming season.
"I will prove that I am a striker who can score lots of goals and winning silverware with Newcastle will be my aim.
"The past year was ravaged with injures and misfortune but this time around will be different, I will make my fans proud again."
Mido is relishing the prospect of learning from Magpies talisman Shearer.
"What can I say about a legend?" he told Egyptianplayers. "Shearer is a great striker.
"I saw him when Newcastle played against OM in this year's Uefa Cup campaign and he was just superb, a true leader on all levels.
"If the move is finalised I will consider myself very fortunate to play alongside him, I am sure I will learn a lot from one of the best ever."
