Uefa award Rooney England goal
There had been much debate over the 18-year-old's goal in the 75th minute, after his shot struck a post and rebounded into the net off the head of Swiss custodian Jorg Stiel.
However, Uefa have now confirmed that shots which hit the goal frame and bounce into the net off a goalkeeper or defender will not be credited as being own goals.
Own goals are only to be awarded if a player directly plays the ball into his own net or when a player redirects a shot, cross or pass into his own goal.
The Everton prodigy, who has set the tournament alight with his strong running and sublime ability on the ball, became the youngest scorer in European Championship finals history with his opening strike in the 23rd minute.
