Wigan's Wright move in doubt
Crewe boss Dario Gradi claims that demands from Wright's agent have scuppered the potential transfer.
"As it stands, Wigan have called off the deal because of the fee the agent was asking for himself and David," Gradi told Crewe's website.
"Wigan wouldn't pay what his agent was asking for and neither we would we. That's up to David to sort out.
"David thought that the talks were progressing, but I told them they were not because of the agent's demands. I've told David to talk to Paul Jewell directly to try and resume talks.
"We have agreed a deal with them, and David is prepared to go and the offer from Wigan is the only concrete offer we have had for him. The ball is now firmly in his court and it's really up to him to do the work and try and sort the situation out.
"That is how we have left it with them and we'll have to see what materialises in the next few days."
Meanwhile, Gradi is expected to open talks with captain Dave Brammer about his new contract.
The former Port Vale midfielder is out of contract at Gresty Road - and is yet to commit his future to the Cheshire outfit.
Stoke, Coventry, Ipswich and Rotherham are all believed to be interested, but Gradi will hold talks with Brammer before he decides what to do.
"Dave has been in touch and we have arranged a meeting this week so he can listen to what we have to offer," added Gradi.
"He hasn't signed for anyone else yet and so we still have a chance. If he has got a good offer then I am sure he'll go for it, but if he hasn't then he will listen to what we have to say.
"To be honest negotiations are easy with us. We have a sliding wage scale and with Dave being one of our best players he will be at the top of it. We will make him our best offer and he will know we cannot go above that.
"But we have a very good relationship and we will meet and talk openly. He will then go away and make his decision."
