Belletti hailed by Barca

Brazil defender Juliano Belletti was officially presented by Barcelona, with whom he has signed a four-year contract.

His recision clause will be ‚é¼60 million (approximately £40 million), having completed his move from Villarreal.

President Joan Laporta and technical secretary Txiki Begiristain declared Belletti to be "one of the best defenders in the world".

The former Villarreal player will wear the number two shirt, which up until now had belonged to Michael Reiziger who left the club at the end of last season; Belletti will take his place at right back.

Belletti said he was "very excited and happy" to be playing for Barcelona.

"It is a personal conquest for me, as a man and as a player, to come here," he said. "Barcelona is one of the biggest clubs in the world."

He added his main objective was "to win titles".

"I know that the president is making an effort so that Barcelona win titles again as soon as possible," said the defender. "They can count on me to help them do it. I will do whatever is possible and impossible so that Barcelona become champions again."

He added that he planned to learn how to speak Catalan with his friend and compatriot Ronaldinho.

The right back denied that he was more motivated by playing with Ronaldinho than for Barcelona, saying that he has already played for three years with Ronaldinho for Brazil.

Belletti said he did not fear the pressure to win titles that exists at the Spanish club.

"I know that playing for Barcelona brings with it a lot of responsibility and that it's been a long time since they won a title, but I like that pressure and I'm prepared."

Belletti, who just turned 28 and has 49 international caps, believes in his capabilities following two reliable season at Villarreal and after having overcome difficult moments throughout his career, such as the injury that put him out for nine months in 1998, and the traffic accident in which his girlfriend suffered serious injuries.

During his presentation as a Barcelona player, Laporta said Belletti "displayed extraordinary technical and human qualities".

He cited as an example of the latter Belletti's decision to donate the bonus he received when Villarreal got to the semi-finals of the Uefa Cup, to the victims of the bombings in Madrid on March 11.

Begiristain said Belletti had been "the great objective" for Barcelona to strengthen the right wing, adding that the team now had two great players (Gabri and Belletti) to cover that position.
