Toldo quits Italy
The Internazionale shot-stopper has decided to quit the international scene in the wake of Italy's first round elimination at Euro 2004.
The 33-year-old, who made his Azzurri debut in 1995, has been forced to play second fiddle to Gianlugi Buffon in recent years.
Toldo revealed he made his decision before Euro 2004 as he wants to concentrate on his club commitments, but he feels Italy have plenty of options in goal for the future.
"I was hoping to end with a great victory," Toldo told the club's official website. "The disappointment of Portugal can't erase my memories though.
"I've had 11 wonderful Azzurri years, great and intense moments, an experience that I will never forget."
"I will now dedicate myself to just Inter. It was a decision that I made before Euro 2004 but I didn't want to reveal it until now.
"I am 33 and I think it is only right that I step aside and allow room for the next generation.
"I leave with one certainty - Italy are in safe hands because Gigi Buffon again showed his quality during the Championship."
Toldo enjoyed his finest hour with Italy at Euro 2000 when they reached the final only to lose to France.
