Tykes sign young defender

The young left back has come through the Oakwell club's youth ranks and made his first team debut at Brentford in October 2002.

The 19-year-old has penned a 12-month deal with Paul Hart's side for the new League One season and he will be hoping to improve on his 14 first team appearances last season for the club.

Meanwhile, two former Barnsley players have reportedly rejected moves to League Two side Lincoln City.

Local reports suggest that Peter Handyside and Craig Ireland turned down a switch to Sincil Bank, as the pair look for pastures new following their release from The Tykes at the season's end.

Ireland, meanwhile, was eyeing a move to Peterborough United after contacting manager Barry Fry and offering him his services, but the Posh boss is more interested in looking elsewhere for new players.
