Spartak in for Kezman

A host of Premiership clubs could well be beaten to the signature of Serbian hot-shot Mateja Kezman by Russian titans Spartak Moscow.

The free-scoring centre forward is almost certain to move on from PSV Eindhoven in the summer, with The Premiership mooted as his preferred destination.

A clutch of clubs including Newcastle, Charlton, Fulham and Birmingham had been linked, but none have managed to persuade PSV or Kezman to sign on the dotted line.

The lack of a firm offer from England has allowed other interested parties to step in and Kezman has revealed that Spartak Moscow are close to thrashing out a deal.

"I am very near to a transfer to Spartak Moscow," Kezman told sportskevesti.com. "They are a big club with great expectations for this year.

"There were some other offers, but Fulham and Fiorentina failed to meet my personal demands.

"The financial offer from Russia is good, but I wouldn't like to talk about it."

If confirmed, this deal would come as a huge surprise, but there is no doubting the ambition of Russian giants Spartak.
