Benfica appoint Trapattoni
Trapattoni, who stepped down as Italy coach after Euro 2004, will be unveiled by Benfica on Monday they reported on their official website.
Benfica have been looking for a new manager to succeed Jose Antonio Camacho after he quit the club to return to Real Madrid in May.
Trapattoni had been expected to take a role within the Italian national team after quitting his role of coach, but it appears he has been persuaded to return to club management.
The veteran coach is regarded as one of the most experienced managers around after successful spells with Juventus and Bayern Munich.
The 65-year-old's first task at the Estadio Da Luz will be to help Benfica negotiate the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round next month.
