Butters secures Brighton stay

Veteran defender Guy Butters has signed a new one-year contract with promoted Brighton & Hove Albion.

Butters was offered the fresh terms a month ago by manager Mark McGhee and has been musing over his future.

The 34-year-old has spent the past two seasons with The Seagulls and was pleased to have been rewarded by the Championship new boys.

With his future resolved, Butters is now relishing the task of helping Brighton make an impact at Championship level following their promotion via the play-offs.

"I'm delighted really, especially at this stage of my career when a lot of players that I have known through the years are struggling for clubs," Butters told the club's official website.

"I'm delighted to sign for another year at Brighton.

"I was disappointed a couple of years ago that I didn't show my full potential in Division One, so hopefully this time around I can show people what I'm about."
