Parma: Only Ferrari leaving

Parma have insisted that the only player set to leave the club is Matteo Ferrari - insisting that Italian Under-21 striker Alberto Gilardino will not be leaving for pastures new.

Ferrari is on the cusp of agreeing a move to Roma, but speculation has hinted that he will be followed out of the club by Gilardino, Daniele Bonera and Sebastian Frey.

"I can confirm that Gilardino is not for sale," said Parma's chief officer Luca Baraldi.

"There are also no negotiations for Bonera and Frey.

"The only talks ongoing are for Ferrari - and he will move to Roma next week."

Gilardino finished the season as the second top scorer, behind Milan's Andrei Shevchenko, and has attracted interest from several top clubs.

As well as interest from within Italy from Juventus and Roma - Manchester United and Real Madrid have been linked with the prolific youngster.

Gilardino admitted that interest from such big names was hugely encouraging.

"I'm flattered by the big teams' interest," said Gilardino. "It means I have worked well at Parma.

"I'd like to go to a big club but, at the same time, it would be good for me to stay for another year here.

"We have faith in Parma and I am under contract here until 2006."
