Angel: O'Leary made me sign
The Colombian international penned a deal to tie him to Villa Park until 2008 on Friday after lengthy negotiations between the two parties.
Angel had no qualms in committing his future to the Midlands side and revealed O'Leary was a motivating force in his decision.
The striker has repeatedly praised the Villa boss for rescuing his career at the club after he was only a peripheral figure under previous manager Graham Taylor.
Allied to other players signing new deals at Villa Park, Angel is confident of a bright future at the club after inking his extension.
"I think everybody knows how important David O'Leary has been for me at Aston Villa," Angel told the club's official website.
"I did well two seasons ago but then I had a very bad year and looked like I was going to leave the club.
"But then the manager came in and from this time last year, it has been very different for me.
"He played a big part in me wanting to stay at Aston Villa. He showed faith in my ability and I think we are now moving in the right direction.
"Olof Mellberg and Gareth Barry have also signed new contracts recently and that tells me that we are planning for the future.
"The manager is looking to bring in new players and we are all looking forward to the new season. He turned things around for us last season and we must now look to qualify for Europe this time."
