Kahn gives Schafer support
German international captain Oliver Kahn has spoken out in favour of Winfried Schafer taking over the national team.
Schafer, who currently coaches Cameroon, is reportedly one of the candidates in the running to succeed Rudi Voller and Kahn said he feels he has the necessary skills to handle the Germany squad ahead of the 2006 World Cup.
"I know Winnie from my time under him at Karlsruhe," Kahn told Die Welt.
"He was able to build up something really fantastic there.
"He would take on the job with great enthusiasm and devotion. In my opinion he is a real alternative."
Meanwhile, German legend Franz Beckenbauer, who is leading the DFB commission to find a new coach, has told the press that he expects a decision to be made this week.
Most German media reports see Denmark boss Morten Olsen, former South Korean coach Guus Hiddink and Schafer as the leading candidates.
