Richard Offiong to Turkey

Newcastle United boss Sir Bobby Robson has confirmed that Richard Offiong has been released and is more than likely heading for a new career in Turkey.

The pacey 20-year-old has failed to establish himself in Robson's first-team plans and will now attempt to resurrect his career abroad.

Offiong first signed professional terms with United in September 2001 and despite showing promise, has now been deemed surplus to requirements.

The Newcastle-born forward has previously enjoyed loan spells with neighbours Darlington, York City and Motherwell - where he appeared in last season's Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers.

With the arrival of Patrick Kluivert seemingly imminent, Offiong's chances of first-team football at St James' Park further diminished.
