Southall doubt for opener

Gillingham have learned that Nicky Southall is set for three weeks out of action due to injury.

The 32-year-old limped out of The Gills' 3-2 friendly win over Hastings United after 18 minutes due to an ankle knock.

Southall received a blow to his ankle that has now been revealed as a sprain to the outer lateral ligament.

The former Hartlepool, Grimsby, Bolton and Norwich man is set for up to a month on the sidelines.

Southall now faces a race to be fit for the club's opening game of the Championship season against Ipswich Town on August 7.
