Tykes sign tall striker

Barnsley have signed tall Nigerian-born striker Folawiyo Onibuje to a one-year contract with the League One club.

The six foot, seven inch hit-man had spells with a number of English clubs before arriving at Oakwell this summer.

Charlton Athletic, Millwall, Preston North End and Huddersfield Town have all been ports of call for Onibuje before earning a 12-month contract with The Tykes for the coming campaign.

"We have signed Folawiyo to strengthen our squad - with an eye to the future," Barnsley chairman Peter Ridsdale told the club's official website.

Meanwhile, midfielder Chris Lumsdon has returned to Barnsley after failing to earn a contract during his trial with League One rivals Hartlepool United.

Lumsdon was handed the chance to leave The Tykes for free this summer, despite still having a year left on his deal with the club.

The former Sunderland man then took up a trial with Pools late last month, as he looked to impress the North East outfit.

However, Victoria Park boss Neale Cooper has decided against signing the 25-year-old and the player has now returned to Paul Hart's Oakwell squad.
