Theo's plans derailed

Millwall chairman Theo Paphitis has revealed that Tim Cahill's failure to secure a move to Crystal Palace has scuppered his plans to pump some cash into squad building.

Australian international Cahill was set to sign a deal with the promoted Eagles after a fee of £2 million had been agreed between the two clubs.

However, Palace chairman Simon Jordan shelved the deal when informed the player's agents wanted an extra payment on top of the £2 million agreed.

Cahill has stated he is happy to stay and help Millwall in the season ahead but the decision has scuppered Paphitis' plans.

"Tim deciding to stay means we will not be able to invest in the club in the way we hoped," Paphitis said. "We wanted to use the money to build the squad for next season."
