Tessem nears Saints exit

Southampton boss Paul Sturrock has confirmed Norwegian attacker Jo Tessem is likely to leave the club in the near future.

Tessem has been increasingly on the periphery at St Mary's during the past 12 months and made just three appearances last season.

The 32-year-old recently undertook a loan spell with Lyn and the Norwegian club are keen to thrash out a permanent deal.

With Tessem expected to be on the fringes of the Saints team for the coming campaign, Sturrock admits talks are underway to allow the player to quit St Mary's.

"Jo Tessem is in a situation that in the last few years he has played very little football," Sturrock told The Daily Echo.

"Jo and I have had a conversation about it.

"It is important at his age that he plays in someone's first team.

"The club and Jo are in discussions at this moment to find the best way that this happens."
