Carvalho completes Blues move

Ricardo Carvalho has completed his big-money move to Chelsea from Porto after signing a three-year deal with the Premiership club.

The Portugal international has signed on the dotted line after the European champions finally caved in to Chelsea's offer.

Porto were reluctant to sell Carvalho having already lost Deco and Paulo Ferreira over the course of the summer but ultimately could not resist The Blues' overtures.

Chelsea have forked out almost £20 million to prise Carvalho from Porto's grasp and he is now due to join his new colleagues in the United States.

The central defender had been coveted by Spanish giants Real Madrid but Carvalho will become the final piece in Jose Mourinho's jigsaw.

The former Porto coach had been looking to replace Marcel Desailly at the heart of the Chelsea back-line and has settled on Carvalho.

The stylish stopper joins ex-Porto team-mate Paulo Ferreira in West London and is likely to bring an end to Mourinho's plans to strengthen his squad.
