New suitors for Robert
Skysports.com understand that Marseille rather than Espanyol are leading the chase for Newcastle United winger Laurent Robert.
Espanyol are reported to be keen on signing Robert with the player admitting he was flattered by their interest.
However, skysports.com has learnt that Marseille are preparing a loan move to bring the former Paris Saint Germain ace back to France.
Robert's long-term future at St James' Park is uncertain as he came under fire from a section of Newcastle fans last term and also incurred the wrath of Magpies boss Sir Bobby Robson.
Newcastle could be willing to farm him out, having brought in James Milner from Leeds over the summer, especially if a fee is involved in the loan.
Marseille made enquiries about taking Robert to Stade Velodrome earlier in the summer with coach Jose Anigo a big admirer of the winger.
The French giants have now renewed their interest in the 29-year-old and, with money available from the sale of Didier Drogba to Chelsea, funding the move for Robert would be no problem for l'OM.
Robert is believed to favour a move back to France and would jump at the chance to join the Marseille revolution if a deal can be agreed with all parties.
