El Moro hoping for Real chance
The Spain international hit-man chose to quit Real last summer and spend the term on loan at Monaco in order to secure regular action.
It proved to be an inspired choice as he fired the French outfit to the UEFA Champions League final - making himself the competition's top scorer in the process.
His displays helped cement his place in Spain's squad for Euro 2004 and also re-established him amongst Europe's top strikers.
Although Raul and Ronaldo will continue to provide fierce competition for a striking berth in Madrid this season, Morientes believes he will get his chance under new boss Jose Antonio Camacho.
"If nothing strange happens between now and the start of the season I will stay here," he told the club's official website.
"More than a challenge it is exciting for me.
"Last year I left Madrid to play the football that would allow me to play at the European Championship because I knew it would be very difficult at Real.
"I had the feeling I had to leave Madrid, maybe this year I don't have the same sensation - especially as there is no important championship at the end of the season.
"I believe that my role in the team this year can be more decisive than it was last year."
