Intertoto Cup round-up

Slovan Liberec lost 2-1 to Schalke in the first leg of their Intertoto Cup final.

Tomas Zapotocny netted with 15 minutes remaining in Gelsenkirchen to keep the Czech Republic side in with a chance of qualifying for the Uefa Cup.

Schalke had been in command for the bulk of the tie after taking a 2-0 lead in to the interval.

Ailton opened the scoring on 26 minutes after being teed up by Lincoln while the goalscorer turned provider for Schalke's second which was finished off by Gerald Asamoah.

But with Schalke dreaming of a relatively straightforward passage in to the Uefa Cup, Zapotocny ensured the tie is very much alive.

Villarreal came out on top in the all-Spanish affair as they earned a 2-0 win at home to Atletico Madrid.

Roger hit the net first for The Yellow Submarines, before Gonzalo Rodriguez sealed the victory after 76 minutes.

Villarreal now have a healthy two-goal cushion to take with them for the second leg at Vicente Calderon.

Lille's tie with Uniao Leiria is also finely poised after the two teams shared a 0-0 draw in France in their first leg meeting.
