Sneijder fined for celebration

Dutch international Wesley Sneijder has been fined by Ajax.

Dutch international Wesley Sneijder has been fined by Ajax for his goal celebration at the weekend.

Sneijder came off the bench and made an immediate impact with a goal, after which he raced towards his own dugout and appeared to aim a volley of verbal abuse at his coach Ronald Koeman.

It is being suggested Sneijder was far from happy at not starting the Dutch Super Cup final against his hometown club, Utrecht, and took his frustration out on his coach.

Sneijder denied the suggestions that his verbal volley was aimed at his coach, but the club have taken a dim view of the incident.

"Ajax think this behaviour is unacceptable and have fined Sneijder," the club said in a statement.

Koeman will hope to draw a line under the incident as the club set about defending their Eredivisie title.
