Hargreaves not keen on Spurs

Owen Hargreaves is not interested in a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

England international Owen Hargreaves has told Tottenham Hotspur that he is not interested in a switch to White Hart Lane, according to well-informed German sources.

Hargreaves has been linked with a move to The Premiership, with his agent revealing last week that the midfielder was close to a deal in England.

The 23-year-old had been expected to leave German giants Bayern Munich this summer after his failure to remain an automatic first choice.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United had all been linked with the Canadian-born player but Spurs appeared to be favourites to clinch his signature.

According to reports in Germany, Hargreaves met with Spurs officials over the weekend but failed to reach an agreement.

He is now understood to have told Tottenham's new coach Jacques Santini that winning back his first team status at the Olympiastadion is his priority over the next few months.

Hargreaves has lost his once undisputed regular status at Bayern thanks to an uninspired 2003/04 campaign and his problems seem to have grown even worse since Ottmar Hitzfeld's departure as coach.

His successor Felix Magath appears to prefer the freshly-arrived German international Torsten Frings for the holding position in midfield.

Magath gave Hargreaves, who is tied to Bayern until 2006, only 12 minutes to impress when bringing him on late in the 1-1 draw against Hertha Berlin.
