Reds wrap up Nunez move
Liverpool have finalised the capture of Antonio Nunez from Real Madrid.
Liverpool have finalised the capture of Antonio Nunez from Real Madrid. The midfielder arrives at Anfield as part of the deal which took England international Michael Owen to El Santiago Bernabeu.
Nunez had been nothing more than a bit-part player at Real, only making his debut last season, despite joining the club in 2001.
The 25-year-old, who plays on the right flank, has inked a three-year contract to join compatriot Rafa Benitez's revolution on Merseyside.
He passed a medical on Monday morning and immediately hooked up with his new team-mates for a training session.
Benitez could now hand Nunez his Liverpool debut on Saturday when The Reds entertain Manchester City in The Premiership.
Nunez was delighted to secure his switch to England and admitted he would have signed for The Reds, irrespective of Owen heading for Real.
"Even if Owen hadn't signed for Madrid, I already had an offer from Liverpool and I knew that the manager was keen to sign me, which is something to be proud of," Nunez told the club's official website.
"It is never going to be satisfactory leaving the best team in the world but playing for Liverpool is a dream come true for any player."
