McIlroy intent on Beckett stay
Stockport boss Sammy McIlroy has no intention of selling Luke Beckett.
Stockport County boss Sammy McIlroy has revealed they have no intention of selling goalscorer Luke Beckett. The 28-year-old is back playing with the Edgeley Park outfit this term after missing most of last season with a cruciate knee ligament injury.
Beckett, who has already scored four goals in his first three matches with The Hatters, has been the target of League One rivals Sheffield Wednesday this summer.
Reports are now suggesting that The Owls may be ready to make an improved bid for the former Chesterfield hit-man, but McIlroy is not interested in seeing the marksman leave Edgeley Park.
The former Macclesfield Town and Northern Ireland manager wants Beckett to form a formidable goalscoring partnership with summer signing Warren Feeney.
"Sheffield Wednesday made a bid in the close season for Luke, which was not even worth talking about, as far as I'm concerned," McIlroy said.
"I want Luke to stay at Stockport and Luke knows how I feel.
"He is a great player and I think he and Warren Feeney have the potential to be lethal up front in this division this season."
