Evans pens new deal
Sheffield Wednesday winger Richard Evans has signed a new one-year contract.
Sheffield Wednesday winger Richard Evans has signed a new one-year contract with the League One club. The 21-year-old signed a month-to-month deal last month in order to prove his fitness to Owls boss Chris Turner after the Welsh wide man was injured for most of last season with a knee ligament injury.
Turner was pleased with Evans's progress and has handed the youngster a proper deal for the remainder of the season.
"Mechanically there is no problem with Richard's knee at all. Only a sprained ankle has held him back from being in the squad," Turner told the club's official website.
"He played the full game at Tranmere and just needs to get more 90-minute run-outs under his belt."
The news comes as Wednesday have agreed a deal to sell their Middlewood Road training ground to a property developer for £10 million.
The deal is subject to local planning permission, but should it be completed, it will reduce the debts of the South Yorkshire outfit to £15 million.
"The sale of the training ground has always been imperative to the future of Sheffield Wednesday," said Owls chairman Dave Allen.
"It will enable us to reduce our debts to around £15 million, at which point we can break even with a wage bill of £2 million and gates of 20,000 plus.
"From that point, the club can move on to a sound and successful future."
