Northampton Town have turned away trialist striker David Bridges.
Northampton Town have turned away striker David Bridges following a trial at The Sixfields Stadium.The former Cambridge United hit-man, who turned down a new contract with The U's this summer, had earlier trials with Major League Soccer side New England Revolution and League One club Chesterfield.
Bridges looked set to follow former Cambridge team-mates Tom Youngs and Fred Murray in signing with Colin Calderwood's side, but the player has failed to impress The Cobblers.
"We had a look at David Bridges, but we won't be taking him," said Northampton director of football John Deehan.
Another player to have a reserve appearance at the club was young Southampton goalkeeper Michael Poke.
The 18-year-old was reportedly 'guesting' and not on trial with The Cobblers this week, with Saints academy director Huw Jennings concerned with putting the youngster into the fire of first team action with a Football League club.
"Depending on how many games Michael is getting for the reserves this season, it might be that we look to loan him out to a Football League club," Jennings told the Southampton Daily Echo.
"But you don't see many teenage goalkeepers in The Football League - it's a difficult place to learn and we wouldn't want Michael's confidence to be affected."
