Dyer makes Magpies apology

Newcastle star Kieron Dyer has made a formal apology to Magpies boss Sir Bobby Robson.

Newcastle star Kieron Dyer has made a formal apology to Magpies boss Sir Bobby Robson after refusing to play where he was told.

Dyer had a row with Robson over his position in last weekend's opening Premiership game with Middlesbrough.

The former Ipswich ace refused to play wide on the right against Middlesbrough which saw him start the game on the bench.

The row led to him being booed at St James' Park as England beat Ukraine on Wednesday night.

Reports have suggested that Dyer could be on his way out of St James' Park, but the player has moved quickly to try and clear the air by apologising to Robson.

"My refusal to play in the position the manager asked me was wrong," said Dyer.

"I sincerely regret the whole incident.

"Certain players were injured and for the good of the team and the club, I should have accepted what Sir Bobby said without question.

"But, ultimately, the manager picks the team and I apologise to him and to our supporters wholeheartedly."
