Owen reveals Keegan spat

Michael Owen has launched an attack on former England boss Kevin Keegan.

Michael Owen has launched an attack on former England boss Kevin Keegan claiming he was never happy playing under him.

The Real Madrid new boy admitted he never felt comfortable under Keegan as he believed he did not have his full confidence.

Owen admitted the problems between the pair began prior to Euro 2000 and carried on during the finals feeling Keegan and his coaching staff did not rate him

"Kevin tried to make training fun but I didn't enjoy it while he was in charge," Owen wrote in his autobiography.

"I assume the manager had conveyed to his staff what he thought of me and plainly it wasn't complimentary.

"I felt I was being singled out, not just by the manager but by the whole coaching team. (Derek) Fazackerley was pulling me up a lot in training.

"If I did one tiny thing wrong, there would be a rush of critical comment. I thought: 'The whole staff have got it in for me here'.

"Looking back on the Keegan era, one main feature stands out for me; it made me question my football ability for the first time in my life.

"It was a dark phase in my career and, yes it scarred me."
