Portsmouth have been buoyed by the news that striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has agreed to extend his deal through until 2007.The talented striker has made a real impact for Pompey since arriving in England, and has started the season with great promise.
The renewed deal adds a further one year to Yakubu's current contract and represents the confidence the club have in the Nigerian.
"I'm really happy to sign the contract and I'm very happy at Pompey as well," Yakubu told the club's official website.
"It is nice that the club appreciate me and what I have produced here."
The deal will hand a real boost to Yakubu, who has recently accepted a call-up from Nigeria after a spell away from the international scene.
Yakubu was sent home from the African Cup of Nations after being accused of ignoring a team curfew, but the regime now want the forward back for the game against Zimbabwe next month.
"My country needs me and I have accepted the call-up for the game next weekend," added the striker.
