Gary Neville has backed Sven Goran Eriksson to silence his critics and lead England to the World Cup finals in 2006.Eriksson was criticised after England's failure at Euro 2004 and the heat was turned up over concerns about his private life.
The Swede sidestepped the hangman's noose, but is under real pressure to deliver the goods in World Cup qualifying.
Neville has backed Eriksson to come up smelling of roses and feels The FA have the best man already at the helm.
"It is unrealistic to think that whoever takes a manager's job, whether it is Sunday League or England, that there are not going to be losses or disappointing performances," the Manchester United defender said at a press conference on Wednesday. "It's going to happen.
"I think we have got as good a manager as England could possibly have. He's created a calm around the team and also the players believe in him. I think the fans believe in him.
"We have progressed a lot under this manager in the last three years and it is unrealistic to think, 'oh let's sack him, bring in someone else and go down the same route for another three years.'
"Continuity and stability is the way that success is always bred. I had three or four managers in my first five years with England and you don't know if you are coming or going.
"You're changing systems, you're changing tactics, you're changing squads, you're changing ideals. Let's just stick with what we've got because it has worked quite well."
