Andreas Jakobsson is set to make his Southampton debut against Charlton.
Andreas Jakobsson admits he did not hesitate in joining Southampton as he prepares to make his debut against Charlton Athletic. The Swedish defender joined The Saints from Danish club Brondby in a £1 million deal prior to Tuesday's transfer deadline.
He readily accepted the chance to move to The Premiership and has been drafted in by Southampton to ease an injury crisis in defence.
The experienced centre half acknowledged he did not have to think twice about leaving the Copenhagen-based outfit to move to St Mary's.
"There was nothing to hesitate about," Jakobsson told Sportbladet.
"After three years in Germany, I moved to Denmark and didn't think this chance would turn up again."
Jakobsson is likely to make his Saints bow in the club's next match against Charlton Athletic on September 13.
Saints head coach Steve Wigley admits his new recruit is at the forefront of his plans for the trip to The Valley.
"He definitely comes into contention for Charlton," said Wigley.
"He is a strong, experienced leader who will provide cover and competition in a key area for us.
"He reads the game well and is a strong runner, as well as a good defender."
