Hamshaw suffers fresh setback

Sheffield Wednesday winger Matthew Hamshaw has torn his thigh muscle.

Sheffield Wednesday winger Matthew Hamshaw has been sidelined with a thigh muscle injury.

The 22-year-old faces around a fortnight out of action with the South Yorkshire club after suffering the leg injury in training.

A scan on Hamshaw's thigh has revealed he needs an extended period of time to recover from the problem.

The news is a setback for the youngster, who signed a one-year deal with The Owls back in July after proving his fitness in pre-season.

Hamshaw was out for over 18 months after suffering two cruciate knee ligament injuries in the past two seasons.

"Matt was out for a long time - it's not unusual for a player in that scenario to pick up a minor injury or two when he gets back," Wednesday boss Chris Turner told the club's official website.
