Kaviedes banned by Ecuador
Ivan Kaviedes has been handed a 12 game ban by the Ecuadorian FA.
The Ecuadorian FA has confirmed that Ivan Kaviedes has been expelled from national team squad for a breach of discipline, and have imposed a 12 game ban on him.The Crystal Palace striker left the squad to reportedly tie up some business with former club Barcelona de Guayaquil having returned to his homeland for an international date.
The Ecuador FA (FEF) took a dim view of the incident, however, and claim he broke one of their rules regarding conduct with the national team.
FEF regulations stipulate that any player breaking the rule "will be punished with definitive exclusion from the national team and a 12 match suspension".
FEF spokesperson Guillermo Espinel confirmed that Kaviedes had been handed the punishment, and that the FEF would now study the possibility of trying to get the player banned from playing for Palace.
However, it seems unlikely that Kaviedes will be prevented from playing for The Eagles as another Ecuadorian Roberto Trotta was handed a six month suspension from football by the FEF but was subsequently cleared to play for his Argentine club side.
The fall-out could though spell the end of Kaviedes's international career with Ecuador, but as he is a European citizen the decision will have no affect on his club career.
Meanwhile, reports in Ecuador claim that Crystal Palace will look to revive a deal for winger Angel Fernandez during the January transfer window after the move stalled last week.
