Red card was a joke: Savage
Wales midfielder Robbie Savage was angered by his dismissal.
Wales midfielder Robbie Savage described the decision to send him off in the 2-2 draw against Northern Ireland as "an absolute joke".The Birmingham City player was dismissed after a ninth-minute altercation with Crystal Palace's Michael Hughes in a match of three red cards.
And Savage, who recently served a three-match ban when he was accused of elbowing Chelsea's Mateja Kezman, accused Hughes of trying to injure him with his tackle.
"I can honestly hold my hands up if I'm in the wrong," he told Sky Sports. "I was given a three-match ban for my club when it looked like I elbowed Kezman.
"But to get sent off for that is an absolute joke.
"Michael Hughes went for me intentionally. He could have broken my leg. There was a reaction and I swung my arms but then the guy came in with a bad tackle. I reacted and I got sent off."
Savage concluded: "I might get sent off more now because I'm a marked man."
Unless his red card is overturned, Savage will miss Wales' game with England, adding: "I'm totally gutted. To get sent off in the first 10 minutes and then to realise I am going to miss the biggest game of my career is devastating."
