Cygan: I almost quit Gunners
Arsenal defender Pascal Cygan has admitted he was close to quitting the club.
Arsenal defender Pascal Cygan has admitted he was close to quitting the club in the summer. The 30-year-old was poised for a return to former club Lille over the summer before the move fell through.
Cygan was prepared to take a massive pay cut to win a move away from Highbury after growing increasingly frustrated with his lack of first team chances.
The Frenchman, who has started the season in the starting XI in the absence of the injured Sol Campbell, has now pledged to stay at Arsenal with a new contract in the pipeline.
"I wanted to leave. My wife was depressed and I wasn't getting any matches," said Cygan.
"I was prepared to cut my salary to a seventh or even an eighth, of what I was on.
"Now there is no longer any question of me leaving. I'm getting games and the boss wants me to extend my contract.
"But I know things will change once Sol has recovered."
