Lucio ready for Bayern

Bayern Munich defender Lucio is fit to face Ajax in the UEFA Champions League

Bayern Munich coach Felix Magath has been boosted by the news that Brazilian World Cup winner Lucio is fit to face Ajax in Tuesday's game at the Olympic stadium.

Lucio was plagued by a rib injury in Saturday's fortunate 3-1 win over Freiburg, but the classy defender gave the green light that he will start against the Dutch and Magath is set to pair him with veteran Thomas Linke in central defence while German international Andreas Gorlitz and Hasan Salihamidzic will start on the wings of Magath's side.

The Bavarians have suffered a poor start under new boss Magath, but they are still on track in Die Bundesliga, in the German Cup and opened their UEFA Champions League campaign with an away win over Group C outsiders Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Bayern's assistant coach Seppo Eichkorn has closely followed Ajax's fortunes lately and warned not to underestimate Ronald Koeman's team.

"Ajax might not have the big names in their squad that they used to have, but they are still a very good team and we can't allow such poor defending as we showed against Freiburg," Eichkorn claimed.

While Owen Hargreaves could be given the chance to make a rare start in Magath's starting formation, the coach announced that Sebastian Deisler, who was rested for the past two games, will also make the squad.

Torsten Frings, Michael Ballack and Ze Roberto can be expected to complete the midfield, while up front the fit-again Claudio Pizarro will partner Roy Makaay, who scored more than three quarters of Bayern's Champions League goals last season.
