Trotters tested by Yeovil
Julio Cesar scored his first goal for Bolton as they beat Yeovil 2-0 in the Carling Cup.
Bolton Wanderers survived a Carling Cup scare at Huish Park as Julio Cesar's first goal for the club helped to secure a 2-0 victory over Yeovil Town.Cesar headed in the opening goal on 80 minutes and substitute Henrik Pedersen extinguished any chance of a comeback with a fine strike three minutes from time.
Yeovil were indebted to goalkeeper Chris Weale for keeping the score level for so long and he made a superb one-handed save from Les Ferdinand's header on four minutes.
Darren Way then cleared a Tal Ben Haim flick from a corner while at the opposite end Lee Johnson's ambitious long-range free kick deflected over the crossbar.
Weale was called in to action on 27 minutes to produce a fine stop to deny Ferdinand again after a delightful flick from Kevin Nolan.
Stelios Giannakopoulos then headed straight at Weale before the Glovers keeper produced another smart stop to push over Bolton debutant Blessing Kaku's fiercely-struck shot.
Yeovil wanted a penalty before half time after a cross hit Ferdinand on the arm while El Hadji Diouf wasted a great chance for The Trotters by dragging his attempt wide of the target.
After the break, Johnson unleashed a searing shot just wide while Andrejs Stolcers flashed a volley just off target as Yeovil threatened an upset.
Bolton came closest to breaking the deadlock on 72 minutes when Fernando Hierro headed Diouf's corner towards goal and Pedersen glanced the ball on to the crossbar.
The breakthrough came ten minutes from the finish when Cesar stole in at the near post to glance Diouf's corner beyond Weale.
He was beaten again on 87 minutes when Pedersen fired in a crisp shot from the edge of the area to send last season's Carling Cup runners-up in to the third round.
