Frandsen blow for Wigan

Per Frandsen is expected to miss the rest of the season with cruciate ligament damage.

Wigan boss Paul Jewell has said that he expects Per Frandsen to be out for the season.

Frandsen, who injured his knee in the game against Sheffield United, was initially expected to be out for three months with medial ligament damage.

However, Jewell explained the injury is worse than expected when he told the club's official website: ‚Ç£The news on Per is very bad as we are set to lose him for the rest of the season.

‚Ç£Having had an operation, the surgeons looked closely at his cruciate ligament and found it to be torn.‚Ç¥

The news is a bitter blow for The Latics as Frandsen has impressed since his summer move from Bolton Wanderers.

Jewell confirmed Frandsen will be missed, saying: ‚Ç£It is heartbreaking for the lad and we are all devastated for him because he has been a vital part of our fine start to the season.

‚Ç£It is a bitter blow because he has brought something to the side we have not previously had and we are going to miss him.‚Ç¥
