Knee blow for Frandsen
Wigan Athletic midfielder Per Frandsen is sidelined with knee ligament damage.
Wigan Athletic's Danish midfielder Per Frandsen is facing up to three months on the sidelines with knee ligament damage. The former Bolton Wanderers player, who arrived on a free transfer from The Trotters in the summer, suffered the injury in Saturday's win over Sheffield United.
Frandsen is expected to have an operation on his knee this week before facing a 12-week spell of rehabilitation.
Latics boss Paul Jewell revealed his disappointment at losing a key player for a lengthy spell.
"It's a bitter blow as Per has been outstanding and has brought something new to the team," Jewell told the club's official website.
"Obviously, he is as upset as anyone but unfortunately that's football, and we'll all just have to get on with things.
"Having seen the specialist we have been told that he is going to be out of action for at least three months, but obviously that depends on how his rehabilitation goes."
