BVB's Salvatore Gambino is out of action until Die Bundesliga winter break.
Borussia Dortmund youngster Salvatore Gambino is out of action until the Bundesliga winter break after undergoing surgery on his left knee.The pacey forward picked up the injury while playing for Dortmund's Third Division amateur team last week and has already been under the knife of knee specialist Jurgen Eichhorn in Straubing, who stated the 22-year-old cannot play again until January.
The son of Italian parents broke into Dortmund's first team last season and his absence will be a further blow to BVB's new boss Bert Van Marwijk (pictured), who is already without a number of stars.
Gambino joins Czech playmaker Tomas Rosicky and long-term injury absentee Christoph Metzelder as Dortmund have suffered a disappointing start to the new season.
With only one win in the first five games, Dortmund let a two-goal lead over Bayern Munich slip out of their hands last weekend when the Bavarian giants were allowed to equalise with two goals in the dying moments of the game.
