Frandsen's career fear

Wigan midfielder Per Frandsen feels he may be forced to hang up his boots.

Wigan midfielder Per Frandsen feels he may be forced to hang up his boots.

The Dane picked up a serious knee ligament injury against Sheffield United at the weekend, which Wigan boss Paul Jewell admitted would keep the midfielder on the sidelines for the remainder of the season.

Frandsen went under the surgeon's knife this week but the problem is so serious that the former Bolton man has been pencilled in for a second operation later in the year.

The midfielder is at a low ebb and he feels he may well have played his last game as a professional.

"I think that the career is over," a downcast Frandsen told Ritzau. "The game on Saturday was probably my last, however I might manage to play a final game for Wigan at some time."

Frandsen arrived at The JJB Stadium in the summer and was expected to play a key part this term, but The Latics will have to mount a promotion push without the experienced Dane.
