Moyes made Rooney peace
Everton boss David Moyes insists he bears no grudge towards Wayne Rooney.
Everton boss David Moyes insists he bears no grudge towards Wayne Rooney and is relieved the constant speculation surrounding his future has now been resolved following his move to Manchester United.Rooney made the switch to Old Trafford at the end of the summer transfer window after weeks and months of rumours about a possible transfer.
Moyes claims he talked to the England starlet on the day of his departure and left things on good terms with the teenager.
However, he believes the player's exit has actually benefited The Toffees as the club can now plan for the future and concentrate on progressing as a team.
"The day Wayne left he came to see me," Moyes told The Daily Star. "We chatted and everything between us is fine.
"He knows this door is always open for him whenever he is passing.
"People tell me he has gone to the right club for discipline and other things for his career and, of course, I have huge respect for Sir Alex Ferguson.
"I also like to think we did everything properly for Wayne Rooney, made the right decisions and brought him along to the point where he is today. Young people make mistakes and the secret is never to repeat them."
On Rooney's protracted transfer itself, he continued: "It seemed to drag on the closer we got to the deadline.
"If I'm honest I'm pleased it's over. Not pleased he's gone, but it allows us to go forward and plan.
"The reaction of the other players has been magnificent and the people I feel most pleased for are the fans. I have a great relationship with them and have always been honest and told them what is happening, or how I feel.
"We have done well because of the honesty and response of the players. There is a feel-good factor here, on and off the pitch, and we have to nurture that.
"There was always going to be life after Wayne Rooney and there will be life after David Moyes.
"This club is an institution and a lot of greats have passed through the doors. What we have to do is make Everton great again."
