Fran Yeste has spoken of his delight at winning a call-up to the Spain national team. The Athletic Bilbao midfielder has broken his long-running silence with the media after not speaking to them since last November when he was hounded after a night out.
Yeste has revealed his disappointment at how he was treated by the media and he is now looking forward to his opportunity with Spain.
"I was treated very badly by the media," said Yeste. "Many things and many lies were said about me and after that I did not want to carry on talking to the press.
"What they say about what I do on the pitch does not bother me because they are judging my work. What I am not going to allow is that I am judged on what I do away from football.
"But I cannot go through life without talking to the media. Now is a good time to start speaking in public again."
Yeste could be handed his debut with Valencia winger Vicente set to miss out through injury.
"It has come as a great surprise," added Yeste. "I was not waiting to be called but I am very happy.
"It is great news for me. I have dedicated myself to playing, to working hard and trying to do my best and I am happy with how things have gone."
