Whelan disciplined by Dons

Aberdeen have fined Noel Whelan and warned him about his future after he missed training.

Aberdeen have fined Noel Whelan and warned him about his future after he missed training.

The former Leeds and Middlesbrough man missed training last week to incur the wrath of Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood.

Whelan has been fined a week's wages and warned any other breaks of club code could see him leave Pittodrie.

A club statement said: "Whelan has been told what he did is unacceptable. He was also warned any future breaches of club discipline will not be tolerated."

Whelan is now hoping to put the whole matter behind him and concentrate on regaining his fitness.

"I failed to turn up for training last Thursday but have now apologised to the manager and club," Whelan told the club's official website.

"That is the end of the matter as far as I am concerned and now want to concentrate on recovering from my calf injury so I can get back into the first team."
