Kluivert unhappy at Dutch snub
Patrick Kluivert has revealed his amazement at not winning a recall to the Holland squad.
Newcastle striker Patrick Kluivert has revealed his amazement at not winning a recall to the Holland squad. The 28-year-old was left out of Marco van Basten's recent squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Macedonia and Andorra.
Kluivert is shocked at the snub following his recent impressive run of form for Newcastle which has seen him net six goals in six starts.
"I feel good, I have my place in the Newcastle team and I am scoring goals - what else do I have to do to get my place back?" said Kluivert.
"I think at the moment I deserve my place in the international team.
Kluivert has not been included by van Basten since he took over from Dick Advocaat in the summer due to his lack of first team action, but now he has established himself in the first team he believes he warrants a place in his plans.
"At that moment I agreed with the coach, but now I am playing well again at Newcastle United," added Kluivert.
"I was sure I would be invited to join up with the Dutch national team. Unfortunately some people think differently.
"It's not because of my past record. I am not asking for privileges but at Newcastle I am scoring goals and in good form.
"It's disappointing that the manager does not think I am good enough.
"Who can say what the future will bring for me?"
