Robben set for Dutch role

Chelsea winger Arjen Robben could figure in Holland's World Cup qualifiers.

Holland coach Marco van Basten admits Chelsea winger Arjen Robben could figure in his country's World Cup qualifiers.

Robben has been named by van Basten in the squad for this month's qualifying double-header against FYR Macedonia and Finland.

But the 20-year-old has yet to make a competitive appearance for Chelsea since his summer move from PSV Eindhoven.

The winger broke a bone in his ankle during pre-season and is still waiting for his Chelsea debut.

He could make his international comeback before his club return, with van Basten seriously considering picking Robben for the qualifiers.

"I have an agreement with Arjen that I will call him on Monday to discuss the intensity of his training with the squad," van Basten told the Sunday Mirror.

"After the conversation and following training, we will work out whether Arjen will start against Macedonia or Finland next Wednesday."

Van Basten also hinted at the reasons why the Oranje's all-time top scorer Patrick Kluivert was left out of the squad.

The Newcastle United forward has been overlooked by van Basten, with the Dutch legend suggesting he is concerned at Kluivert's attitude.

"I have spoken to the managers who had the job before me - Hiddink, van Gaal, Advocaat," added van Basten.

"They all spoke to me about the disciplinary problems they had with certain players.

"If they have banged their heads against the wall, I am not going to do the same."
