Paul not in final Furlong

Veteran striker Paul Furlong is not planning to retire when his QPR contract expires.

Veteran striker Paul Furlong is not planning to retire when his Queens Park Rangers contract expires at the end of the season.

The evergreen forward has been in superb form for The R's this season, netting eight goals in The Championship.

He moved to Loftus Road just over two years ago and remains a mainstay in the plans of manager Ian Holloway.

With Furlong still being selected on a regular basis, he admits he does not envisage quitting the game when his deal with QPR expires at the season's end.

The 36-year-old is looking to follow in the footsteps of some of football's other elder statesmen by continuing for another two seasons.

"I would like to play until I am about 38," Furlong told The Evening Standard.

"There are a few players around that age, like Teddy Sheringham, Les Ferdinand and Martin Keown.

"I look at players like that and I think, 'If they can do it, and I do the correct things, why can't I?' I love playing football."
