South American WC Round-Up

World champions Brazil secured a comprehensive 5-2 success over Venezuela.

World champions Brazil continue to control the South American qualifiers after a comprehensive 5-2 success over Venezuela in Maracaibo.

Brazil were ahead as early as the sixth minute when Milan star Kaka scored after a one-two with Ronaldinho.

The second came just after the half hour when Ronaldo beat goalkeeper Gilberto Angelucci and slipped the ball back for Kaka to score.

Ronaldo then got in on the act himself with a quick-fire brace (48 & 52) just after the interval.

Substitute Adriano added a fifth, before Venezuela grabbed two late goals through Alexander Rondon to add a respectable look to the scoreline.

Paraguay came from behind to secure a valuable point in Colombia.

Freddy Grisales put the home side ahead after 18 minutes, but Aureliano Torress levelled with just 13 minutes left to make sure Paraguay remain in third place in the qualifying group.

Colombia now find themselves bottom of the section after Bolivia secured a 1-0 win over Peru in La Paz.

The only goal of the game came from Joaquin Botero just before the hour.

The home side did finish the game with ten men when Luis Ribeiro was dismissed, but the Bolivians managed to hang on for the win which bolsters their hopes of a place in Germany 2006.
